People who can support you

The University is committed to fully supporting you while you are here.

Sometimes, we feel that our postgraduate or CPD students assume that many of the support services that Universities can offer are only available to undergraduate students studying full time degrees but this is not the case.

You are surrounded by many people who can help you, these include staff who are connected to the course or module that you are studying plus a whole range of University support services.

Programme Team

Programme Leader

The Programme Leader has overall responsibility for your course, and your experiences as a student on that course. They can be contacted about any aspect of the course but are most useful for queries towards the start of your programme relating to induction activities and around the time you are completing your qualification. If you have any problems contacting any member of staff, please contact your programme leader to inform them.

Module Leader

The Module Leader has overall responsibility for an individual module, including the quality of the learning resources, the setting and marking of assessments and communication about that module to our students so is often your most useful contact. They tend to be more involved in the teaching and assessment that students experience than the programme leader, although many programme leaders also act as module leaders, and can answer questions about . Sometimes sessions are delivered by other members of staff, if you have a query relating to a specific session you should find their details within the module handbook uploaded to Canvas, but if if any doubt your module leader will be able to help.

Programme Administration Team

The academic team of programme leaders, module leaders and teaching staff are supported by a Faculty of Health Studies Programme Admininstration Team. This team are located on Floor 1 of the Horton A Building which houses much of the Health Studies resources and they have a student helpdesk open during office hours.

If you are ever unsure of who to ask for help with something relating to your course, then this team is usually the best place to start as they can access your records, track your progress, can provide contact details for other staff members and help you navigate the University systems

Personal Academic Tutor (PAT)

Your Personal Academic Tutor, commonly referred to as your PAT will be a key contact. Every student at the University of Bradford is allocated a PAT and you will be able to see their contact details in your e:Vision profile.

Our PATs are just as important to postgraduate and CPD students as they are to our undergraduate students. It is possible that you have been allocated a PAT that you meet teaching you, but it is possible that you won’t meet them in this way. Don’t be a stranger, make contact to just simply say hello. This is the best person to turn to at the first sign of any diffficulties you might experience with your studies, and would benefit from chatting things through with someone connected to the University.

University Support for Students

Towards the start of this online induction tool we mentioned that some of our postgraduate and CPD students perhaps assume incorrectly that the wider support services are designed around the undergraduate, full time student experience. This is simply not true, and many of our postgraduate and CPD students have benefited from these services.

We would encourage all of you to take a few minutes to see what services are available to you in the A to Z of Student Support Services, and to take advantage of as many as possible, and whenever you need to. You do not need to be experiencing problems to benefit from our Academic Skills Advice, the Library or our Careers and Employability Service for example, our staff have lots of experience in supporting students juggling part time study and work and understand that for some of our postgraduate and CPD students it may have been quite some time since you completed your last formal qualification.

Should you need it, you could find that the Disability or Counselling Service make all the difference to your academic success, so again please take that time now to make yourself aware of just what is available to you.

MyBradford

MyBradford is a first point of contact for student who need help, information or guidance and can be found in the Foyer of the Richmond Building, and whilst you can often contact individual support services directly many students report that this triage service is very helpful, especially when juggling work and study.

You can also contact them during office hours:

A full list of the services they provide can be found here https://www.bradford.ac.uk/student-life/support/#d.en.41983

Student Union

The University of Bradford Union of Students (UBU) is where you will find everything you need to complement your student life, whether that is expanding your skills through sports, societies, media areas or volunteering; meeting new friends or enjoying our entertainments; joining with like-minded students in areas of politics; or getting academic or social advice and support. You do not have to be an undergraduate student to benefit from this.

Every student at the University of Bradford is automatically a member of the Students’ Union so, welcome to Team Bradford! The UBU is located in Student Central, connected to the J.B. Priestley library
